In the 2020 season, the best riders in their age group visited Hungary for the first time, which was a huge success in terms of sports diplomacy. As a result, after nearly a century, our country was once again able to host a world competition in the history of the sport . What’s more, despite the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic, the competition in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County was the only youth World Cup race to be held, which was welcomed by the leadership of the International Cycling Union (UCI).
The primary goal of the competition was to lay the foundations for success in the coming years with the help of the organizers, their supporters and partners, and this progress was evident in the quality of the field a year later, in 2021. Among the teams coming to Hungary today, we can see riders who, despite their young age, have signed contracts with the youth teams of clubs representing the elite of the sport.
In the 2025 season, Hungary will host the final stage of the ten-round series on August 14-15. The race will start with a section around Vásárosnamény, where the field will have to cover nearly 140 kilometers, completing three large laps in Bereg. On the morning of the second day, the young riders will cover 90 kilometers in the Ibrány area, and in the afternoon, the competition will conclude with the usual 3.3-kilometer individual time trial in Nyíregyháza.
