The competition ended with an individual time trial of only three and a half kilometers in downtown Nyíregyháza. András Vock (Hungary) was the first to tackle the highly technical course, which included cobblestone sections in places. Based on the experience of previous years, it was clear that a time of around four minutes would be needed to win.

In the end, it was the leader of the points competition, Filip Smoras of Norway, wearing the green jersey, who set the bar so high with his time of 4:06 that he won the time trial. Behind him, Helvijs Kancers of Latvia finished second, while Albert Hansgaard Jensen of Denmark clocked the third-best time. Among the Hungarians, Csongor Kardos (Hungary) finished in fifteenth place, ten seconds behind.

However, the real drama was provided by the yellow jersey wearer Oleh Smolynets, who took a risk and crashed heavily in one of the corners. Despite this, the Ukrainian cyclist did not do badly, but lost the overall victory by three seconds.

“A lot depended on this stage, so I had to stay focused, but I really liked this short course and the winding, technical time trials suit me, so I was confident,” said stage winner Filip Smoras as he waited for the award ceremony. “I’m also satisfied with the organization, I liked the stages, everything was fine.

The yellow jersey went to Marcin Wlodarski, who finished ninth in the time trial, with Smolynets and Norway’s Ola Herheim joining him on the podium. Alex Martin Dorogi finished eighth, earning him the distinctive jersey awarded to the best Hungarian cyclist. Smoras won the points competition, Smolynets won the youth competition, and Austria won the team competition, while Denmark finished at the top of the overall World Cup standings.

“I tried to do my best in the time trial, thinking we’d see how far it would take me,” said overall winner Marcin Wlodarski, describing the events. “I’m sorry that the leader fell; it’s a terrible feeling when a race ends like that. But that’s just how cycling is. I’m happy with my victory, which could be a big boost for my future.
