Castle of Diosgyőr is a medieval monument in the historic town of Diósgyőr, now part of the city of Miskolc. The present Gothic castle was built only after the Tatar invasion, and its heyday was during the reign of Louis the Great, when its knights’ hall was the largest in Europe.
Later it was the wedding gift of Hungarian queens until the Ottoman period. By the end of the 17th century, it was uninhabitable and its condition deteriorated. Archaeological excavations began in the 1960s. In the early 2010s, the castle was restored to its original state and the restored rooms were furnished with period furniture.
In 2020, Hungary achieved a sporting historic success by joining the Nations’ Cup series, namely the Junior World Cup. Nyíregyháza and its surroundings hosted the only round of the year, after which in 2021, under the name of One Belt One Road Nations’ Cup Hungary, Hungary hosted the best of the age group again.
Of course, there will also be a home Nations’ Cup Youth World Cup race in 2022, which, as originally planned, will host cyclists as the ninth stop of the ten-round series between 17 and 19 August. The Cup of Nations will include both one-day and multi-day races, with Hungary hosting a three-day event.
