The duo of Nermin Catovic and Jovan Divnic were right behind the front runners at the 2020 World Youth Cup in Hungary, both finishing in the top 30 overall. A year later, it was Mihajlo Stolic who tried to finish higher, but like his predecessors, he only made the top 30, as he did a year later.
This year, Bosko Velicic will clearly be their captain, having won both the time trial and road race national titles in his age group in 2023.
Preliminary entry list for the Serbs are Dusan Stanic, Andrija Naunovic, Pavle Rajovic and Bosko Velicic.
In the context of the close cooperation between the cycling federations of the Visegrad Cooperation countries, the Slovak national team is a natural candidate for this year’s World Cup in Hungary. Although they were unable to challenge the Danish-German-Italian hegemony in 2020 and did not achieve outstanding results in 2021 and 2022, they still managed to do well.
They will be captained by Mattias Schwarzbacher, who has been dubbed the next Peter Sagan, and who, despite losing the national championship road race, won the World Cup in Dubnica this year and has a string of top 20 finishes to his name this season. He is joined in the country by road champion Simon Gottstein, a club cyclist for Italy’s Team Franco Ballerini, which is essentially the training base of ProTeam Corratec-Selle Italia.
Preliminary entry list for the Slovaks are Simon Gottstein, Juraj Vrbik, Jakub Husar, Matthias Schwarzbacher, Robert Jackuliak and Samuel Fedor.
The 2023 Home Nations Cup Youth World Cup is originally scheduled to host cyclists on 16-17 August as the ninth stage of the ten-round series.
