The star of the 2020 event was Tobias Lund Andresen (now Team dsm-firmenich), who won all the stages and despite the best efforts of the German and Italian national teams, they could not take the overall victory from him. Moreover, the Scandinavian country’s riders were not satisfied with just that, having been dominant in the peloton every year so far.
This year’s team includes Alfred Kongstad, who has already won a stage in a UCI category race this year.
Preliminary entry list for the Danes are Jakob Falk Paarup, Alfred Kongstad, August Birk Hundt, Anders Nytofte Petersen, Matias Lind Sondergaard and Victor Johannesen.
Surprisingly, Croatia has entered the Nations’ Cup Hungary for the first time.
The roster is based on national champion Jan Tisaj, with Ian Peran who also having a better chance of a podium finish in the time trial in Nyíregyháza. The national coach is Matija Kvasina, a well-known name in the Eastern European cycling scene.
Preliminary entry list for the Croatians are Jan Tisaj, Ian Peran, Luka Skara and Filip Pecnjak.
The Poles return as defending champions, having triumphed last year with Hubert Grygowski, now a member of the French CIC U Nantes Atlantique continental team.
There is no reason to be discouraged, however, as Patryk Goszczurny is ready to battle for the yellow jersey. He has now competed in no fewer than twenty-five UCI races this year and, although he has just one win to his name, he has collected a string of top 10 finishes. In addition, he also excelled at the European Junior Track Championships, winning a silver medal in the points race.
Preliminary entry list for the Poles are Adam Bronakowski, Wiktor Galdyn, Jakub Gilicki, Patryk Goszczurnny, Filip Gruszczynski and Szymon Ilski.
As originally planned, the 2023 Home Nations’ Cup Youth World Cup will host cyclists on 16-17 August as the ninth round of the ten-round series.
