The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) has always placed great emphasis on the development of young cyclists, and in 2007 it launched the Nations’ Cup, a series of races with the primary aim of promoting the development of young cyclists. The series is now organised separately for junior boys and U23 boys.
In 2020, Hungary made sporting history by joining the Nations’ Cup series with the Junior World Cup events. Nyíregyháza and its surroundings hosted the only round of the annual Nations’ Cup, after which the best of the age group will be hosted again in 2021 and 2022 under the name One Belt One Road Nations’ Cup Hungary, and in 2023 and 2024 under the name Nations’ Cup Hungary.
The Nations’ Cup features one-day and multi-day events, with a two-day event in Hungary next year, including events such as the legendary junior classic Paris-Roubaix and one of the most popular youth stage race, the Czech Junior Peace Race.
The Nations’ Cup series is open to national teams, regional teams and club teams. However, the organisers should always give preference to the top twenty-five places in the previous year’s junior national rankings.
