The U19 national team took part in a three-day training camp around Pécs, where they mostly practiced situational tasks in preparation for the World Cup. Fifteen youth cyclists were present in the preparation.
„It is of outstanding importance for Hungarian cycling, that our country will also join the Junior Nations’ Cup series from this year” – said Zsolt Dér, coach of the national team. „That is why we trained for three days in Pécs, where we have already modeled situational tasks specifically in preparation for the race, just like a bunch sprint.”
The Visegrad 4 Juniors Nations’ Cup begins with a 95-kilometer stage between Vásárosnamény and Nyíregyháza. The next day there will be two halves stage, firstly in the morning a four-and-a-half-kilometer individual time trial in the center of Nyíregyháza, while in the afternoon a 73.2-kilometer road race awaits cyclists around Ibrány. On the third and closing stage, the caravan rolls again between Vásárosnamény and Nyíregyháza, this time covering 107.3 kilometers.
„The Hungarian national team members will be Kristóf Árvai, Márton Mack, Bence Mészáros, Bendegúz Nagy, Ármin Sánta and Zétény Szijártó” – continued Zsolt Dér. „Three flat stages and a short time trial await the cyclists. One of the scenarios is that there will be complete bunch sprint, which is exactly what we practiced in the camp, building the train for Ármin, Bence and Zétény as well. We are talking about youth riders, I am looking forward to a very fast and hectic race. It is important to be focused and active throughout the race. We can’t wait for the sprint, we have to go for attacks, we have to keep several options in mind. I appreciate these three days positively, the Hungarian guys are motivated, they are very much looking forward to the start of the World Cup.”
An open race is expected, due to the flat stages and the short time trial, thus, even a good Hungarian result can be achieved.
„We trust in the good results. A good podium place, but even a victory. We hope to successfully close the first Hungarian World Cup” – concluded Zsolt Dér.
The international juniors’ race will come for the first time to Hungary which will be able to organise a world-level competition for the first time after 100 years in the history of cycling sport.
