Following the European Championships in France in early October, the Union Cycliste International (UCI) published its preliminary race calendar for 2026, which naturally includes Hungary’s only youth World Cup race, the Nations’ Cup Hungary. As is well known, this year’s Nations Cup round in Hungary was held in August 2025, passing through Vásárosnamény, Ibrány, and Nyíregyháza. The domestic competition was ultimately won by Marcin Wlodarski of Poland, while the best Hungarian cyclist was Alex Martin Dorogi (Team MBH Bank).

Of course, the main organizer, the Movement Health Recreation Sports Association, and its partner, the Nyírség Cycling Sports Association, will also organize the race in 2026, which, as things stand, will be the penultimate stage of the eleven-round series on August 13-14. The Nations’ Cup includes both one-day and multi-day races, and next year Hungary will once again host a two-day race. The competitions include events such as the legendary junior classic Paris-Roubaix and one of the most popular multi-day youth races, the Czech junior “Peace Race”.

“It is a great honor for us to host this race for the seventh time in a row,” said race director János Solymosi, who is also president of NYKSE. “This is a great competition series, as evidenced by the results of previous years and the number of cyclists who went on to become professionals after standing on the podium. I believe that, in addition to adult competitions, the fact that our country also provides international competition opportunities for junior cyclists is beneficial for Hungarian cycling, as our young people can measure their strength against the elite of their age group and assess their level. The Hungarian stage of the World Cup also offers a step forward for domestic road cycling.

– This year’s event proved to be just as successful as in previous years! It’s clear that having the individual time trial at the end of the race instead of at the beginning makes the competition much more exciting, and I’m not just saying that because the yellow jersey changed hands here this year,” said János Solymosi, describing this year’s events, when the previous leader, Oleh Smolynets of Ukraine, fell and lost his overall lead. “It is also worth noting that, compared to previous years, we have attracted much more interest in Ibrány, Vásárosnamény, and Nyíregyháza. As a true local patriot, this fills me with pride, but I really hope that this community will grow year after year, as this will directly increase our international reputation.
