In the 2019 Nations’ Cup, Ukraine finished on the 10th place, so it gained the right to enrol in the Hungarian world cup event. In the past season, about 90 per cent of the points Ukraine collected were earned by the same rider: Andrii Ponomar.
The seventeen-year-old rider started the season with a top 10 place in the Juniors Paris-Roubaix, the most prestigious one-day race of the age group, then he won a stage in the Trophée Centre Morbihan and LVM Saarland Trofei World Cup races. He crowned his performance at the European Championships in Alkmaar, Holland where he managed to win the road race with 30 seconds advantage after an excellent attack.

Besides Germany, Ukraine also registered with its strongest team for the World Cup event, and from among the seeded nations, the Czech Republic and Norway have already confirmed their intention to participate.
The international juniors’ race will come for the first time to Hungary which will be able to organise a world-level competition for the first time after 100 years in the history of cycling sport. The events of the Nations’ Cup will be attended by national and regional teams. The competition held between 26-28 August will be made up of 3 road stages and 1 individual time trial.
