The event, which ran from 26 to 29 May and included one prologue, two full stages and two half stages, was contested by eighteen national, one regional and two club teams.
Belgium’s Duarte Marivoet celebrated at the end of the 4.4-kilometre prologue, before the first 135-kilometre road stage was won by Denmark’s Henrik Pedersen, who took the overall lead. The next morning, a group of twenty sprinted for victory in the first half stage, with Frenchman Paul Magnier fastest – Pedersen lost the yellow jersey – Germany’s Emil Herzog, whose name is not the first of his kind this season, fastest in the afternoon’s eleven-kilometre individual time trial. The outcome of the race was decided by the final 104-kilometre stage, with Switzerland’s Jan Christen finishing solo in front by almost a minute, winning also the overall classification ahead of Norway’s Johannes Kulset and the Netherlands’ Menno Huising.
Belgium currently leads the Union Cycliste International (UCI) nation rankings, with Norway second and Germany third.
The Junior Nations’ Cup series continues with the German LVM Saarland Trofeo from 9 to 12 June.
Of course, there will also be a home Nations’ Cup race in 2022, which, as originally planned, will welcome cyclists as the ninth stop of the ten-round series from 17 to 19 August.
