With the special permission of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), this year, in addition to the national and regional teams, two club teams can also start in the Hungarian World Cup race. One of them is the strongest youth education base in the US, the LUX-Sideshow p/b Specialized.
In collaboration with Axel Merckx’s legendary continental squad, the team has added riders in the professional peloton in recent years, such as Brandon McNulty, who is currently strengthening the colors of the UAE Team Emirates, or Quinn Simmons, who is racing for Trek-Segafredo.
The team, who also boast a girl and boy roster, arrives in Nyíregyháza with exemplary calendar and infrastructure – where in advance, U.S. reigning road race champion Colby Simmons will be their captain, who finished earlier this year in the Top-10 in a French multi-day race, then finished second in a Belgian one-day classic. Next to him, Cole Kessler could stand as the champion of the time trial for the start of the prologue, while Blake Wray flashed at the race in Dubnice, Slovakia. Perhaps we can greet the worthy challengers of the Danes?
Preminary entry list for the LUX-Sideshow p/b Specialized: Colby Simmons, Cole Kessler, Luke Feuerhelm, Blake Wray, Alex Gustin and Christopher Hardee.
According to the present position in the 2021 season, Hungary can host the opening of the three-round series between 20 and 22 August. The race starts with a 3.8-kilometer prologue in Nyíregyháza, and then the next day there will be two half-stages: a 89.9-kilometer rad race in the morning around Vásárosnamény, and a 41.2-kilometer road race in the afternoon around Ibrány. On the closing day, the caravan will roll again in the Nyíregyháza area, this time covering 108 kilometers.
