The Ukrainian national team had already entered last year’s Nations’ Cup race – Andrii Ponomar, who had already strengthened the colors of Androni Giocattoli-Sidermec ProTeam and raced this year’s Giro d’Italia, would have started –, but unfortunately they could not travel to Hungary due to the restrictions caused by the coronavirus situation.
On the other hand, they can finally make their debut this year, with Dmytro Polupan, the winner of the road race of the current Ukrainian Road Championships, and the individual time trial champion Maksym Varenyk. In essence, they come in the strongest possible roster, and although they didn’t compete much internationally in 2021, knowing the country’s cycling sport, they shouldn’t be described at all.
Preminary entry list for the Ukrainans: Dmytro Polupan, Maksym Varenyk, Bohdan Solonnikov, Vitalii Kost, Yuriy Korzinin és Yuriy Shcherban.
According to the present position in the 2021 season, Hungary can host the opening of the three-round series between 20 and 22 August. The race starts with a 3.8-kilometer prologue in Nyíregyháza, and then the next day there will be two half-stages: a 89.9-kilometer rad race in the morning around Vásárosnamény, and a 41.2-kilometer road race in the afternoon around Ibrány. On the closing day, the caravan will roll again in the Nyíregyháza area, this time covering 108 kilometers.
