A world-level international cycling race in Hungary was organized for the last time quite a long time ago, in 1928 when the world championships took place in Budapest. This is only one of the many reasons for which the event, held between 24-26th July 2020, is significant.
Due to the COVID-19, the Visegrad 4 Juniors event has been delayed to August 26-27-28.
The three-day Junior World Cup competition is featured in the Nations’ Cup series of the International Cycling Federation (UCI). The race is named as ’Visegrad 4 Juniors’ and is organised by the ’Movement Health Recreational Sports Club’, the same entity that is responsible for the Hungarian competitions of the Visegrad 4 Cycling Races. The tournament is made up of three field road races and an individual time trial as follows:
Stage 1
24. July 2020. Vásárosnamény-Nyíregyháza
Road Race, 95 km
Stage 2/a
25. July 2020. Nyíregyháza
Individual Time Trial, 4.5 km
Stage 2/b
25. July 2020. Ibrány-Ibrány
Road Race, 73.2 km
Stage 3
26. July 2020. Vásárosnamény-Nyíregyháza
Road Race, 107.3 km
The participants of the Nations’ Cup races are national teams, and the series is made up of the junior version of several legendary events such as the Paris-Roubaix and the Gent-Wevelgem.
The centre of the competition will be in the town of Nyíregyháza. The capital of Szabolcs county welcomed two international events in 2019, so it has already proven its abilities as the host of the V4 series.
