The best junior cyclists covered 280 kilometres over the three days. The Visegrad 4 Juniors started with a 95-kilometre stage on 26 August between Vásárosnamény and Nyíregyháza. The next day, two half stages took place: a four and a half kilometre individual time trial in the morning in the centre of Nyíregyháza and a 73.2 kilometre road race stage in the afternoon around Ibrány. On the final day, the caravan cycled again between Vásárosnamény and Nyíregyháza, this time covering 107.3 kilometres.
The star of the race was Tobias Lund Andresen from Denmark, who won all the stages and although the German and Italian national teams tried their best, they could not take the overall victory from him.
Still only 20 years old, he has recently reached a turning point in his career, signing his first professional contract with Team DSM until the end of the 2025 season. His last two seasons have been eventful, with several top-10 finishes for the Dutch club’s jcontinental team and a stage win in the Tour of Bretagne It’s no wonder that the team will be counting on him in the WorldTeam squad from 2023.
– I am happy and proud to be a professional cyclist with Team DSM. I’ve already had the opportunity to race with the guys, which will make the transition easier. My goal is to grow, learn and benefit my teammates as soon as possible,” Andresen told the team’s website.
The main organiser, the Movement Health Recreation Sports Association, will continue to organise the 2023 Nations’ Cup race, which will be the ninth leg of the ten-round series from 16 to 18 August. The Cup of Nations will include one-day and multi-day events, with a three-day event in Hungary. Among the events are the legendary junior classic, the Paris-Roubaix, and one of the most popular youth multi-day events, the Czech Junior Peace Race.
