The 2022 Junior Nations’ Cup series continued in Canada from 12 to 17 July. The seven-stage event ended with a triple French victory, with Lucas Mainguenaud winning the overall. The Gauls held on to the yellow jersey with three stage victories to claim a confident victory.
A slightly bigger peloton gathered in the Netherlands for the Watersley Junior Challenge from 29-31 July. Two full and two half stages awaited the cyclists in the immediate surroundings of one of Europe’s most famous cycling park. At the end of the first stage, Norway’s Tobias Risan Nakken triumphed, while Frenchman Estevan Delaunay won the individual time trial the following morning and American Andrew August was the fastest in the afternoon. The final stage decided the general classidication of the race, with home rider Max van der Meulen (Willebrord Wil Vooruit) coming home with a lead of nearly two and a half minutes to win both the overall and the mountain classification.
France currently leads the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) nation rankings, Belgium is second and Norway third.
Of course, there will be a home Junior Nations’ Cup World Cup race in 2022, which, as originally planned, will be the ninth stage of the ten-round series from 17 to 19 August.
