The Watersley Junior Challenge took place in the Netherlands from 28 to 30 July. The event, which took place in the immediate surroundings of one of Europe’s most famous cycling parks, featured an individual time trial and two road stages. Oscar Chamberlain (Australia) was fastest in the 5.6-kilometre, essentially flat chrono, just one second ahead of Paul Seixas (France).
A bunch sprint at the end of the second 120-kilometre stage saw Matys Grisel (France) fastest, but Chamberlain retained his yellow jersey, as he did at the end of the 113.8-kilometre, hilly circuit stage the next day, which was won by Luca Giami (Italy).
Chamberlain was followed in the general classification by Seixas in second place and Kasper Haugland (Norway) in third.
France currently leads the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) national rankings, with Italy second and Norway third.
Of course, there will be a home Nations’ Cup Youth World Cup race in 2023, which was originally scheduled to be the ninth stop of the ten-round series on 16-17 August.
